Camphor is a bicyclic monoterpene ketone with the two enantiomers (+)- and (-)camphor.
C10 H20 O
soluble in water
Both enantiomers may be found in the essential oils of laurel plants and the daisy and labiate families, (+)-camphor particularly in the bark and resin of the camphor tree.
Used carefully, camphor acts on the central nervous system, stimulating circulation, alleviating heart complaints and coughing as well as muscle and joint aches.
